Captain Todd Ritter began his career with the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office as a Marine Deputy in 1997 before moving to the jail as a Corrections Officer that fall.
He was promoted to Sergeant in October of 2003, selected as the Administrative Sergeant in March of 2011, promoted to Lieutenant in March of 2015 and again to Captain in August 2015.
During his tenure with the Sheriff’s Office Captain Ritter has been the Corrections Division Training Coordinator and Corrections Academy Coordinator and has been involved with training well over 500 corrections officer throughout the state of Michigan. In 2013 he rewrote a portion of the curriculum for the Michigan Sheriff’s Coordinating and Training Council’s 160 Hour Corrections Academy.
Captain Ritter is a Certified Jail Officer through the American Jail Association. He is also a graduate of Central Michigan University’s Law Enforcements Executive Leadership Institute and Eastern Michigan University’s School of Police Staff and Command.
Captain Ritter is also a proud Combat Veteran of the United States Army.
