Proposed New Building Plans

These proposed plans have been presented to the City of Traverse City Commission, Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners and the Parks Board of both the City and County.  Architect, Ray Kendra, with Environment Architects, is fine tuning the design with input taken from these boards.  The plans have been on display at the Traverse City Senior Center for a number of weeks, seeking input.  Please take time to look the plans over and if you have any input, send your comments to lwells@grandtraverse.org or call Manager, Lori Wells at 231-922-4911 ext. 101.

This plan would allow for us to stay in our current building during construction.  The tennis/pickleball courts would be moved south on the property, while the shuffleboard courts would stay intact.  Additional parking has been provided for.  We will be calling for the building to be set back at least 75 feet from the main water mark.  Extensive consideration has been given to removing as few trees as possible and maintaining the integrity of the park.

Senior Center Main Level Floor Plan

Senior Center Floor Plan

This floor plan provides us with everything we need to continue offering quality programs to seniors.  The red area is a lounge where cards, pool and games can take place, overlooking the front porch views.  The yellow area will be the front entry where our reception area will be staged.  This area will provide space for displaying important services for seniors, a coffee bar with some seating for a waiting area.  The ivory area is the front porch which will be covered and provide soft seating, rocking chairs and tables and chairs for small gatherings.  The gold area is the multi-purpose Event Hall.  This space will seat up to 150 people for special events.  The Hall can also be divided into three separate spaces for smaller groups.  The purple spaces are small, private spaces for personal services like massages, foot care, legal consultations and tax preparation.  The green space will be a commercial kitchen that will serve the senior center program as well as become a necessary commodity to those who may wish to rent the senior center for special functions like weddings, family reunions, etc.  All restrooms will be handicap accessible and we have provided for two bathrooms with outdoor access for beach users.  Finally, the blue spaces are for administrative purposes for staff and volunteers.
